Originally dating back to the Prohibition era, speakeasies were originally created as secret, often underground, bars that would allow patrons to consume alcoholic beverages despite alcohol being illegal. However, they have remained a pillar of modern society despite alcohol now being legal. Speakeasies today are often hidden or not as they originally appear, nodding to the original hidden nature of these types of establishments
To get into the B&GC Denver speakeasy, you’ll first need to head down the alley between Second and Third Avenue. You will then come to staircase number 3 that features B&GC’s logo and a doorbell. This historic speakeasy was originally home to Cherry Creek Post Office carrying with it early historic elements from the Denver area. Millers and Rossi describes itself as a contemporary art speakeasy. Located in the RiNo arts district of Denver, this speakeasy combines art gallery and speakeasy all into one. They also offer private events in either their main lounge or the Ohana room, making for an ideal bachelor or bachelorette party space.
Although not a traditional speakeasy, Five Nines Denver is a modern and elegant cocktail bar tucked away in the Clayton Members Club & Hotel. The name of this Denver speakeasy is meant to represent purity (99.999% is the purest form of silver). In the same way, Five Nines aims to provide the purest cocktails for guests. This also is a great spot to celebrate after a wedding, with numerous ballrooms to say ‘I do” in at the Clayton Hotel.
Meatball Eatery & Libations is a family owned Italian restaurant with a unique prohibition era, speakeasy. The restaurant and bar are full of prohibition-era pieces as well as authentic 1920’s drinks. Being a large restaurant also means they are a great place to utilize for a rehearsal dinner in Denver, or just a classy night out on the town.
Just outside of Denver, in the heart of Olde Town Arvada, is the Arvada Tavern. The history of the tavern is rich, dating all the way back to 1933 and being the first tavern license issued from the city after prohibition had ended. In addition to the upstairs speakeasy, they also have a full restaurant downstairs as well as an outdoor patio to make for a fun date night all in one spot.
As you enter through the doors of Williams and Graham you appear to arrive in a corner bookstore. As you go deeper, however, you are immersed into one of the best speakeasies in Denver. Behind the bar carries on the bookstore vibe, but instead of books, you’ll find over 500 different bottles from all over the world which are used to make a variety of unique and classic cocktails and spirits.
While you peruse the shops along the streets of Larimer Square, it may be easy to miss the inconspicuous stairwell leading down to Green Russell. As you enter, you are immersed into what appears to be a pie shop. A host then greets you and leads you through a door immersing you into an authentic downtown Denver speakeasy experience.
Hidden behind the freezer door of Frozen Matter is Retrograde, otherwise known as the ice cream speakeasy of Denver. This speakeasy offers a futuristic space-like feeling bar with delicious signature artisan cocktails.
One of Denver’s longest running bars is the Cruise Room Denver. This historical speakeasy has remained in operation since its first day open, a day after prohibition had officially ended. It also is located in the depths of Denver's oldest running hotel, The Oxford Hotel. With so much history in one location, the Cruise Room Denver is arguably one of the most historic speakeasies in Colorado.
Hidden beneath the third floor of the downtown Denver Dairy Block establishment, is Run For The Roses Denver. Since 2015, Union Lodge No 1 has been immersing guests into the early 1800’s in their speakeasy style bar. The decor, drinks, and even the American flag are meant to be as they were back before Prohibition in the early 19th century making for a historical and exciting date night experience.
27 floors above the busy downtown streets is Peaks Lounge Denver. This bar is located inside of the Hyatt Regency and offers some of the most breathtaking views in all of Denver. Because of its convenient location, it is ideal to visit for sunset before dinner or the nearby theater.

Known for their elaborately themed immersive experiences, Allusion Speakeasy is a revolving pop-up bar. Between their two locations, you can find elaborate themes, switched out quarterly, including past themes such as Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Marvel, Jurassic Park, and more. With things always changing, Allusion Speakeasy stands out as a regular date night spot in Colorado Springs with something new to discover each visit.
Though to the naked eye, Brooklyn’s on Boulder Street may look like the place to get a custom suite or a new tie, this facility is actually a Colorado Springs speakeasy. After entering through a door marked employees only, you will find yourself in a quaint yet elegant bar that really captures the essence of a classic speakeasy.

Lee Spirits specializes in distilling gin for the purpose of complimenting original prohibition era cocktail recipes the way they were originally intended to taste. In addition to operating Brooklyn’s on Boulder Street, they also operate a tasting room in downtown Monument, Colorado.
Cork and Cask Colorado Springs has been voted one of the best upscale bars in Colorado Springs, making for an elegant and fun date night. They specialize in offering a wide variety of wine and whiskey while immersed in a classic speakeasy environment with antique decor and old-school brick work. They also have an outdoor patio with fireplaces making for an ideal place to snuggle up close to your special someone on a cool Colorado night.
The aim of Provisions Castle Rock is to provide patrons with peace, intentionality, and clarity. Located right in between Colorado Springs and Denver, Provision also offers numerous events throughout the week as well as a private speakeasy style Bookshelf room to give you the full speakeasy experience.
Located in the heart of downtown Golden Moon is the Golden Moon Speakeasy. This speakeasy style bar offers prohibition-era cocktails and drinks all made from Golden Moon Distillery spirits. They also regularly feature live music for an added element to your speakeasy experience.
Tucked away inside of the historic Hotel Boulderado, is License No. 1. This historic underground speakeasy bar allows you to step back in time, while also enjoying the numerous comedy and musical acts that perform here weekly. Beneath the streets of downtown Longmont is the Speakeasy Longmont. This speakeasy transports guests not just with their classic cocktails, but also with classic blues and jazz music. The space is also full of history; where once people walked underground on sidewalks, they now relax in the snazzy Speakeasy Longmont for drinks and music.
The Dark Horse Boulder has been a landmark restaurant and bar in Boulder, Colorado since 1975. This establishment is not a traditional speakeasy, but rather brings in numerous speakeasy elements with their floor to ceiling immersive decor as well floor to ceiling movie props and antiques. In addition to their classic drinks, they are also known for their burgers and wings for a more laid back date night atmosphere.
Adjacent to the Tandoori Grill Restaurant, is the South Boulder Speakeasy. This neighborhood bar is a relaxed atmosphere which regularly hosts comedy shows and local Boulder musicians in the establishment. As an extension of the Tandoori Restaurant, they also offer authentic Indian cuisine.
Moody’s Lounge is an intimate speakeasy inspired bar in the heart of downtown Grand Junction, Colorado. This stylish bar offers a large selection of cocktails as well as a food menu. All of this is wrapped together in a historical setting with an elegant atmosphere.
Take a step back in time by visiting the Montrose neighborhood speakeasy Phelanies. In addition to the speakeasy classic drinks, Phelanies also differentiates itself by sourcing local herbs and syrups to compliment each drink.
